Love this Elissa Bassista! (I added an A for fun- what can I say, I'm Italian.)
Love the reframe. I needed this today!!!!!! I have been going through the Big R for a while now! And just today, there is a profound redirection commencing. 🩵 YES!
Reframe reclaim!! I was just talking about all my rejections recently and my husband said congratulations-You’ve put yourself out there which is more than most people 🤓 thank you for the reminder ♥️
Sometimes rejection means, "not ready." The piece needs more work before it is realized. Sometimes rejection means "unlucky." The editor on whose desk it landed just published a similar piece or wishes the piece was lighter or heavier or mentioned menstruation or peanut butter. How do you know which of all these things it means? You often can't. That is the great tragedy. Also, this series is a balm. Thank you.
Extremely yes. In an upcoming newsletter I'll talk about the reasons for rejection, and you nailed some of the biggest. Whenever someone dumps me and I cannot, FOR THE LIFE OF ME, figure out why, I remind myself, "People are mysteries." Publication/rejection can be a mystery. And the answer isn't on the level of the question. Or the answer is to forget the question. Definitely the answer is to keep working. "Work hard. The rest is a mystery." –Ottessa Moshfegh
This hit hard! I'm always excited to submit then wonder what went wrong when rejected. When you point out that rejected writers are still writing and the statistics on rejection, it caused a redirection! This series is wonderful! Thank you!
Another rejection arrived in my inbox yesterday, coinciding with the bedding in of a UTI. You can imagine that with this unfortunate turn of events, I too thought all the bad thoughts.
More writing, a short course of antibiotics and reading this piece has turned out to be the antidote. Hit me!

I've had years of rejections between acceptances. My book was rejected for one decade. You're on the exact right path!
Bella! Good Job! Now that's STAMINA!!!! Be Proud...It's all in the timing.
what's your book?
(My rejection (s) was not of a publication - but of self by others- the stuff of hard knocks ~ but the door it's opening is pretty magnificent.)
Oh, have I not promoted my book enough? Thank you for asking! My book is HYSTERICAL, and you can find all the info here: https://www.elissabassist.com/hystericalbookthatiliterallywrote
I know rejection of self by others v. well. I have nothing profound to say except THEIR LOSS.
AND YOUR BOOK LOOKS GENIUS! A must read indeed. I KNOW THE FEELING ALL TOO WELL!!!
And the whole ailment connection is VERY REAL.
Hi Elissa, don't measure your book promotion efforts on me. (I'm not super social media woman.) I love the TITLE! Thank you!

Your husband is right (which is a sentence I've never typed before). I think he should celebrate your rejections with dessert or cash.
It’s so funny that you mention that- I celebrate my rejections with cake! But he absolutely should give me a dollar at least for each one 🙃

Rejection is the thing everyone experiences a lot but no one talks about enough. Keep getting rejected, which is to say, keep writing!
I looove this series. Even though I feel so small, I also feel on top of the world! Thank you! 😊
He may be dreamy, but you’re the sun. Thanks for a great reframing of rejection. Writers get rejected 70% of the time. Great perspective.

Thank you for sharing that 70% stat, it really made me feel so much better. Also, the reframing of down vs up is a real game changer.
I’m very gradually waking up to the idea that I need to read your stuff more consistently. Which will probably mean NOT reading as much junk.
I like this compliment very much. Every day I try to read/consume less junk, but the junk makes it hard.
Human centipedes just gonna keep on human centipeding...also WTF men submit to a column called FUNNY WOMEN???
