God I love this. I've spent the last four weeks trying to get over an obsession, because age is just a number until you fall in love with someone 25 years younger than yourself. Now, I say fuck it, because I have also been writing some of the best material of my life. Obsess away, Tina, but put the sharp knives in a locked drawer.
I used to be so obsessed with Shrek, and I listened to the soundtrack 24/7. My AP European History teacher said I reminded her of Lord Farquaad, and I loved her for that. I need to catch up on all the spin-offs and sequels.
Obsession is how I wrote a 3-part YA Dystopian novel series in less than four months. Your essay is spot on—obsession makes the writing process fast/enjoyable/fulfilling and So. Much. More!
My obsession is being obsessed. I was given this advice in another workshop (love it totally makes sense to) but my little rat brain is obsessed with upwards of 6823 different things at any given moment. Currently its 17th century sewing practises in France and next week it will be the connective fungus trees use to communicate through the forrest floor.
Currently - I'm obsessed with nostalgia and serendipity! Those are the two things that I could write about, talk about, make movies about, live inside of!!
I'm obsessed with trying to knit a chicken and the fact that I'm old
Have you read All Fours by Miranda July yet?
I heard I have to.And that it may make me question EVERYTHING :-)
Currently obsessed with the number 34. ;)

I'm copying my comment above: Have you read All Fours by Miranda July?
I have not but I will. Is this your prescription for people who think they are old?
Yes and no. I don't want to give away anything. You'll know what I mean when you read it.
Okay now I’ve read it. Holy fuck. I’ve never felt so seen by a book. After I finished it, I went out in the fields and howled like a wolf.
I'm obsessed with this post.

The second one is the perfect sequel. I would also recommend Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
